Friday 15/4/05

We made it 60 miles to Berea today taking far longer than it should have because Alex's bike chain fell apart twice, firstly after about 200yds from the church door and secondly about 40 miles in, then one of the screws holding the pannier fell off for the second time but luckily we were able to find it on the road or else we would have been really stuck (its superglued on now so I don't think we will have any more problems).
Berea seemed like a nice town, we got an awesome campsite for $4.50 and met a police officer at the KFC (which had a signed photo of Colonel Sanders. Yes he does or at least did exist!) who was very nice and offered to show us around he KFC and if we had any problems told us to dial 911 and ask for him. Then mother of all disasters occured, the map taking us 400 miles or so across Kentucky disappeared ( about the same time as the women camping next to us when we arrived did), we had it at KFC when we showed the police officer and we are next to 100% sure it was on the bench next to the tent. Couldn't do anything about it at night although Mark retraced his steps in the dark and went routing through the bin just in case but to no avail.
